San Antonio isn’t just where Deborah Lund lives—it’s where her story begins. Her ancestors were among the Canary Islanders who built this city, and her family has been tied to San Antonio’s history for generations. She grew up surrounded by stories—some true, some not—and made it her mission to separate fact from fiction.
With over 12 years of experience as a Docent at The Alamo and the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures, Deborah has spent her career digging deeper, questioning the stories we’ve been told, and uncovering the ones that got left out. She’s a professional tour guide, a member of the San Antonio Conservation Society and the NIOSA Commission, and an active volunteer in historic preservation. If there’s a historical site in San Antonio, chances are she’s been involved in protecting it.
But here’s what really matters—she doesn't do scripted tours. She shares real history. No Hollywood fluff, no myths passed off as facts. She researches every detail, so what you hear is the truth—the good, the bad, and everything in between.
Her daughter is a history major and educator at UTSA, carrying on the tradition of bringing the past to life. Her other daughter is a software tech with a deep love for our National Parks, blending innovation with a respect for preservation. And then there’s her granddaughter, Journey Castillo—at just 3 years old, she became the youngest person ever to visit all 63 U.S. National Parks, making headlines in People Magazine and even getting a mention on Saturday Night Live.
If you want a history tour that challenges what you think you know, book a walk with Deborah.
Let’s talk history.
